Liberty 2014 Update #4 – Routines!

At this moment we are having an hour of “Shortest Private Ever” – $5 for a 2-minute private with any of the pros on staff here this weekend.

It’s a fundraiser for the charity “One Flap Down” plus being a lot of fun as well as a lot of expert advice gathered in one ballroom. I think I’ll put a little piggy-bank in our kitchen and deposit quarters so by this time next year we’ll have enough for each of us to have 30 mini-privates. I love this idea.

Last night’s competitions were FANTASTIC.

I know I say that a lot but seriously, last night’s routines were seriously awesome.

The Pro-Ams! Holy Shamoly!

The level of dancing in these pro-ams, the CHOREOGRAPHY!! The music choices! WOW!

And the teams! Oh. My. Gawd. Dizzying, spellbinding pictures, shapes, designs, patterns – all weaving in and out in front of you like a living kaleidoscope.

Couldn’t use my camera, had to take in the whole landscape including the edges of my peripheral vision because the entire scene was moving in all corners in different ways all at once – complimentary and contrasting directions, tempos, emotional dynamics – all communicating separate parts of a single piece.

A savannah of movement. Stunning.

I had chills, tears, with the brilliance and artistry of these team routines.

Seriously. There are some Bad. Ass. choreographers in our community. I’d put them up against any of the world-famous dance choreographers in a New York minute.

Just a brief word here about the feel of “Role Play,” Arjay’s crazy awesome stereotype-bending team of DC dancers.

I might be “projecting” – but considering the lively facebook discussions of the last few weeks regarding same-sex jack and jill, strictly, and routine couples — either I was “projecting,” or, the choreography – the black and blood colors, the music, the shapes – was intentional.

But I felt I could see, hear – something – a loud and clear something – how to describe it - Power? Pride? Anger? Impatience?

“You hear me? You hear me? You hear me?

“You hear me?!?!?

“YOU HEAR ME NOW??????”

I was like, whoa. Okay, I hear you.

Oh no! I have to run down to ballroom! in the middle of writing this! can’t finish now I’ll finish telling about last night after today’s comps …

rghghgh so much more to say no time
